Doublekeys™ is a new technology for automating common tasks on your computer. With Doublekeys™, you can press two keys at the same time, and make your computer automatically do anything you want it to do. For example, if you’d like to have an easy way to start the Excel® program, you can program Doublekeys to start that program when you press the ‘x’ and the ‘l’ keys at the same time. The Doublekey [xl] is an easily remembered shortcut for ‘Excel.'
There are other macro programs available, but they all require you to type a strange combination of keys, like ctrl-alt-F1, in order to initiate an automated sequence. With Doublekeys, you can use an easily remembered pair of letters to initiate the automation.
European characters: Doublekeys ™ lets you easily type charcters like é ń ö and €. For example, with Doublekeys™, you can type the ‘é’ accented character by simply pressing the ‘e’ and the ‘/’ keys at the same time. Other European diacriticals are also easy. The doublekey [n~] produces the 'ń' character, the doublekey [a^] produces 'â' and the doublekey [o:] gives you an 'ö.' There are another 20 or so European diacritics already programmed with simple mnemonics in Doublekeys. There are also touch-type Doublekeys ([as] for á, [er] for é) for European users who buy American laptops.
Mathematical symbols: Doublekeys ships with a full complement of mathematical symbols (like ∫ ∑ ∏ √ and ∞) and Greek letters. These can be very useful to engineers and scientists for informal communications.
Make your own: You can also program your own text macros with Doublekeys. The Doublekey [sf] is a very popular abbreviation for "San Francisco." A wine merchant might want to have a shortcut for the varietal name "Gewürztraminer." Your credit card numbers ([ax], [mc]), and all of your email identities are just a Doublekey away!
Mnemonic Macros: As you can
see, Doublekeys makes it very easy to remember your keyboard shortcuts. The
current version ships with about 15 macros that give you shortcuts for Windows Explorer,
the Control Panel, Word®, Excel®, cursor keys, and other functions. This list will be greatly expanded in later versions.
Windows 2000 & XP only:
Doublekeys for Windows 2000 and Windows XP is now available for download. Unfortunately, no Windows 95/98 versions are possible. There are currently no Macintosh or Linux versions either, although we hope that will change.
Download: Click here to download Doublekeys. Save the Setup file in an easily remembered place (like 'My Download Files'), and then double-click the Doublekeys_1_0_2_setup.exe file after it is done downloading (use the 'find file' command if you have trouble locating it after the download).
Doublekeys is shareware: you can try it for free for 40 days. During that time, you can purchase a permanent license for the introductory price of $19.95. The price will increase as additional functionality is added to the program, but your introductory license will entitle you to free upgrades for at least two years.
